Tammy and I are trying to save money. I have been paying $70.00/month on storage in Georgetown on stuff from my old house. So, we now have a clean garage and we wanted to fill it back up.
I went to our local UHaul joint and asked for a truck. ”Ok, sir, that will be $29.95 to rent that truck”, says the man behind the counter. I think that is very reasonable. He then starts spouting rehearsed lines that he has quoted a million times before. Blah blah fuel tank full. Blah blah contract. Blah blah damage. Blah blah $0.79 per mile! Blah blah insurance.
So, before driving away, they charged me 80 something dollars (35 miles charged initially). That is more than a month’s rent of storage! Oof. Tammy will be upset.
I had a bunch of driving to do. In the end, I drove 99 miles. The final bill was $135.48 for UHaul and then $20.76 to fill the gas tank back to full. That is $156.24 for one load/unload cycle. Oof again! That is more that 2 months of storage! Oh well. We’re saving, right? I guess…
Here is the breakdown of the bill:

it is SUCK, ha ha ha
So, since you failed to anticipate the total cost of your move, somehow its UHAUL’s fault?
Guy,
Nope. No one’s “fault”. I just think that it is a pretty high price to use a truck for a couple of hours. That’s all. Since I don’t really use their service often, I can’t guess their charges either. I just needed the truck and thirty bucks sounded reasonable plus gas. Not several other charges. Even double the $29.95 amount would have been fine by me (plus fuel of course).
