IPhone or Palm Pre? Help me decide!

May 26th, 2009 by Tom · 5 Comments · Default, Geek

Since I have to get a new phone anyway, perhaps I should throw the Palm Pre in to the mix. I always loved my Palm Treo. That sucker would still be working today if I would have kept it. It was a rock that did more than I could have asked. I was disappointed when I first purchased my iPhone but I have learned to love it. It is really integrated in my life now.

If the Palm Pre would bring me the same amazing joy that the Treo did, I would switch without a doubt. I would abandon the closed iPhone. I liked the ability to quickly write applications for the Treo but find it a pain on the iPhone. Will the Pre be so easy? That would be grand. Would the Pre actually use Bluetooth like the Treo? The iPhone doesn’t.

Help me with my decision with your opinion. Leave comments with your views and tell me why I should buy one or the other.

All I can say is Apple has the developers and the apps.

I don’t claim to know much about the Palm Pre but ease of integration with your Mac should be pretty high priority. It’s a no brainer with the iPhone but possibly not with other phones.

Uhhh, last I heard, the pre isn’t going to be with AT&T. We have to be on the family plan. You COULD just stay with the flip phone you have now- hello Moto?

Wow, you got punked! “You COULD just stay with the flip phone you have now- hello Moto?”

iPhone all the way. I’m a longtime Palm fan…wait that didn’t come out right. I miss some of the aspects of my Treo, but the functionality of my iPhone laps that of my Treo many times over.

Kevin – Interesting article. I would like the ability to write an application for my phone and be able to email to friends. I don’t want the requirement of using the app store though. But I see the problems that Palm is having. It’s not the same as The old stuff.

Barrett – Yea, I’m definately wrapped up in Apple hardware and would like to integrate easily.

Wifey – Whatever! I’ll trade your ass in on a new phone! :)

Clif – I do like the iPhone now but you know that the Palm community made some pretty cool applications. The hardware was also a rock. I never felt that my phone couldn’t do something when carrying the Treo. I still feel slightly limited by the iPhone. The hardware should be more accessable to the developers. The Bluetooth chipset for example! It would be cool to use my Apple keyboard or Mighty Mouse with my phone. What if I could use the desktop mouse and keyboard and an external display? Shazam! A cool little laptop. It would be nice to have access to the filesystem and store files – PDF for example.

I’m still up in the air. I see the Palm Pre rocking! I’m just sayin’…
