After my little two mile run this morning, I got a message when I plugged in my trusty iPod. “Hey!”, it said, “You have been 500 miles with the iPod and Nike+ kit!”. I sit here sweaty and proud. I don’t always use the Nike+ kit when running as I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 when running outdoors. I sometimes use them both but mostly use the Nike+ kit when on the treadmill. It makes me feel pretty good to make this accomplishment.

I took a couple of years off from exercise to be lazy and make a baby. The baby is made and I gave up being lazy again. There were several external factors that got me off my butt again.

First, my Aunt Claire. She is truly inspiring and has a motivating quality. In January, I believe that she could have kicked my butt. I think that I might have a chance now… Thanks, Aunt Claire!

Second, my nephew, Christian. He is really a good kid – er, young adult (he can drive now – WTF?!?). He was using his iPhone at dinner one night while I was up there and he had a pretty cool program that would count the calories for you. I used to do all calculations by hand in a stinking spreadsheet. Granted, I learned tremendously doing it all myself but using the Livestrong application for the iPhone has been pretty nifty. It even takes in to account your activity (or not) for the day. That is slick. Thanks, Christian!

Lastly, Reeder. I haven’t known Rick for my whole life or anything but I feel pretty close as his personality is welcoming and pleasant. I was watching his Tweets and such and noticed that he mentioned that he ran 7 miles. I thought it was a typo and disregarded it completely. Later, he posted that he and his wife ran 10 miles! I almost pooed my britches! I asked him if this was true and sure enough, it was! He then did a stinkin’ half marathon! Oh, nu-uh! I know he di-ent! Well, he did. Thanks, Reeder!

Now, I am back on the road, treadmill and hitting the weights. I was back up to 235lbs. That is five pounds from my maximum – ever! It was a different shape because I have more muscle now but it is still too heavy in my book. So, I started working out again on February 1st. I am down to 219 this morning. That is 16lbs! I feel great right now. I would like to get to about 185lbs and then gain weight a bit for muscle mass. I don’t want to have a body builder physique as I would like to look good at 80 years old too! I feel thinner and more cardio inclined people do better, in my book, in their older years. I will be under 200lbs between May 3rd and May 10th. This is 2lbs a week. Wish me luck!

Chunky Tom - The picture that threw me over the edge!

This is the picture at my Aunt’s house that threw me back over the edge. When I tried counting the chins on my face and lost track, I knew it was time to do something! I am my hardest critic! But, DAMN! I’m a fatty! But I make a hella fine kid!
