I’m sure sure I got this from somewhere but I never see it implemented with RVs. When I see an RV connected to shore power with an extention cord, it is usually just on the ground. Well, if the rain or morning dew decide to get in there and short out the leg on the connection, you have bad things happen.

I am connected on this stop to run a few items in the RV. I have nice extention cords that are rated for sufficient current to run one of my 13.5k air conditioners plus a little extra. They are 30 amp RV cables. The issue was leaving the points where they connect on the ground.

I decided to cut little notches in 5 gallon buckets for the cable to come in and go out. I can put a large stone or dirt in the bottom of the bucket if I need to make sure it remains stationary. I have two cords and two buckets with lids. It keeps the connecting points dry and also is a good storage spot for the cables when under way.

I hope this tip helps with the safety of your adventures. If there are any questions that the pictures don’t answer, just ask!
